Unlock the potential: Community Business in Places of Worship

Community businesses are known as a solution to keeping valued local services open, providing spaces which reduce loneliness, creating jobs and training and being outlets for local products and services.
When they are located in places of worship they can also help to keep these often historic buildings open by:

  • Generating income through rent
  • Attracting more people through the door
  • Increasing opportunities to apply for funding

Recognising the potential of community businesses ‘co-locating’ with active places of worship, Plunkett Foundation is part of a coalition of organisations campaigning to promote the benefits of community businesses of the model. Generous funding from Benefact Trust enables them to provide:

• Free bespoke advice to community business groups and churches exploring the potential of a church or grounds as a potential venue for a business.

• Grants of up to £5,000 to support early feasibility and development work.
